The Veterinary Department and Preventive Measures to Prevent Hemorrhagic Fever

18 April 2025

The Veterinary Department confirmed that it has taken health and preventive measures to protect livestock from hemorrhagic fever.
The department’s website stated that, as part of the department’s and other veterinary hospitals’ commitment to the health and safety of citizens and to prevent the spread of hemorrhagic fever, all veterinary hospitals have been directed to implement a set of veterinary health recommendations and measures that will enable them to limit and control the spread of the disease. These include:

1. All veterinary hospitals should contact the governor’s offices to activate the work of oversight and inspection committees headed by the governor and relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Health, the Environment, Municipalities, security agencies, and the Veterinary Department, to eliminate the phenomenon of random slaughter and prevent the raising of animals indoors.

2. Prohibit the movement of animals from infected areas unless they have a veterinary health certificate confirming they are free of ticks, issued by the hospital or veterinary clinic.

3. Intensify awareness and community education campaigns and distribute awareness folders to breeders and citizens.

The department’s officials also indicated that the highest levels of preparedness, readiness, and investigation have been raised in veterinary clinics, in addition to intensifying the presence of veterinary teams of veterinarians around the clock, in coordination with local governments and relevant departments, to monitor the progress of the containment plan and overcome any obstacles facing the implementation of the national preventive campaign to spray and dip animals and spray pens, which was launched on April 6th and is ongoing.

It is worth noting that the hemorrhagic fever disease has spread throughout Iraq over the past two years, causing numerous injuries and deaths, and costing the state huge sums of money and significant efforts to control it.
