FAO delegation in Iraq

 

On May 25, 2025, the Prime Minister received the Minister of Agriculture and Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with the organization in implementing the recommendations of the Baghdad Water Conferences to address climate change, which has impacted the environment and caused water scarcity and the spread of desertification.

 

Later, the Minister of Agriculture signed an agreement with the Director-General of the FAO regulating the joint framework between the two parties. This agreement aims to support Iraq’s vision for the period 2025-2029 and the National Development Plan, transforming agricultural and food systems to improve food security, climate change adaptation, water productivity, and sustainable rural development.

On May 26, 2025, the President of the Kurdistan Region met with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources. There was also a meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the FAO delegation. A memorandum of understanding was then signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources and FAO on a number of technical issues.
