How to deal with high temperatures in poultry farms

Here is a set of procedures that I advise project owners and poultry breeding halls to follow during the hot season:

  • Turn off the lights from 7 am to 7 pm and suffice with the lighting that enters from windows and openings of the extractors or extractors (for broiler chickens).
  • Try to give feed in the form of meals, and focus on the morning and evening meal and do not feed during the heat, especially from 12 pm to 5 pm.
  • Give antipyretics such as vitamin C with aspirin (in the absence of bleeding problems such as feed toxins and Gamboro disease) or vitamin C with Novalgin (in the event of problems).
  • Give liquid acidifiers to acidify the water to increase the acidity of the water. Liquid acidifiers or antitoxins can be used.
  • Feed condition, hand-made, it is recommended to increase the energy content of the feed by adding oils to the feed.
  • Birds can be sprayed with medium spray provided that there are extractors (suction cups) with low relative humidity or a strong air current that allows the water to evaporate and exit the hall.

  • The surface of the hall can be sprayed with water during a heat wave continuously to reduce the temperature of the hall.
  • Use ammonium chloride, which is a diuretic (kidney wash) that leads to increased water consumption, which leads to reducing the temperature of the birds, and it has another important benefit, which is cooling the water.
  • If the water tank is exposed on the roof, it must be covered to protect it from direct sunlight.
  • If the water tank capacity is 1000 liters, you should put a quarter of the water in it, i.e. 250 liters of water only, to avoid the water temperature rising.
  • Use ice in the drinking water to help cool it.
  • Use expectorants by spraying or drinking water, such as Mentofen, Pamophylline, Aerofort, or Aramox.

  • Leave a space of one meter wide, along the hall and on both sides, remove the bedding from it and moisten it with water in a light spray, to make room for birds suffering from heat stress to lie on the cold floor.
