Although the nucleus of the first veterinary medicine was in this country (the country of the two rivers) more than five thousand years ago, the real work in the academic and teaching field was late. The first college of veterinary medicine was established in Iraq in 1955 in Baghdad, and its dean was Dr. (Sadiq Al-Khayyat), who adopted modern foundations, scientific curriculum and veterinary medical research to protect society and livestock and develop them because of their important economic importance in the life of the country. Most of the teachers were from outside Iraq (mainly India), and in 1970 the college was established in Al-Amriya district in Baghdad with an area of (159.2) dunums, which included laboratories, classrooms, internal departments, sports arenas, a club for students, and a veterinary teaching hospital. There are currently (16) colleges of veterinary medicine in most of the provinces of Iraq. Which :1. College of Veterinary Medicine / University of Baghdad2.
